| Victim in the case, who is now a mother of three, long ago sued and settled with Polanski and does not want to pursue a criminal case due to the impact of the media on her and her family. This brings up the question of why the state, being the police, is pursuing Polanski if the victim already received retribution and for her own personal reasons would like to stop the criminal case. It's not an easy question. One could say that the victim's neighbors, whether they live in LA or Paris, have an obligation to protect themselves by locking up criminals. On the other hand, the state usually overlooks the needs of the victims. |

I agree he did, but the 49ers were lucky to be in this game like they were. They were thoroughly beat. If it weren't for a 10 point swing right at the end of the 1st half, the game would have gotten ugly..
When you looked at in detail, the wind/transmission line deal (aside from his bigger vision bumping up the value of his natural gas holdings) seemed to be a cover for using eminent domain to run the water duct to Dallas from an aquifer he'd purchased. I hadn't heard he'd been foiled on this attempt; awesome! Funny how most people forgot he was a lifelong shyster as soon as he went "green".!

@Lightstab: all the folks complaining about this swear blind that they did not install it. That's the point: it's either:1. a new piece of software (i.e., not an update), 2. something that Apple already put on their machine silently (i.e., without their informed consent), or3. a mass delusion on the part of otherwise-intelligent people like Bott, Erdos, Santo, and SJVN.Choose one??
You know, I use an Asus R1F tablet, and I use the hell out of the thing. For the most part I use it generally like a regular laptop - writing papers for classes, screwing around on the web, and taking notes. Sure, I can do all of this with a normal laptop, but it's helpful to be able to scribble a note in handwriting or draw something on a whim, which I find much more convenient than using a mouse. All it really is, when it comes right down to it, another mouse input. And now HP is coming out with some multitouch tech that doesn't even need a stylus. The only real downfall with these is that you get smudges all over your screen.Maybe it's just me, but I think that adding tablet functionality to many (if not most) future computers would be neat. Maybe it's not necessary, as a lot of posters above me have mentioned... but it can be useful. What can I say, I happen to like 'em. |

Sometimes, that's what really wrong with the legal system. There ought to be some way someone can easily defend themselves against baseless claims or otherwise balance the costs. If mega-corp sues Joe Trailerpark, then Joe shouldn't have to face down a $100,000 legal team to defend himself. It should be more equitable. Like mega-corp be forced to have the janitor argue the case. Otherwise, you really don't have lady justice being blind, just very expensive.

Make sure you don't take Tylenol though. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is a bad idea as it gets broken down via the same enzymatic pathway that assists in breaking down alcohol. If you *have* to, use Aspirin in the morning as both the mechanism of action and breakdown pathway are different. Best advise = water + pedialyte and maybe some food to slow down the alcohol from entering your bloodstream. |
