A little over two years ago, i.e. before anyone who wasn't considered to be clairvoyant said there was a recession imminent, I read that most oil wells in East Texas were running with a 99% water cut. That means they were pumping so much water in to flush out the oil that what came out was basically pure water with a smudge of oil on top. I don't believe US capacity in the Gulf of Mexico is anywhere near pre-Katrina levels either. So as much as I agree that what you are suggesting would stick a big two fingers up at the oil companies and coutries controlling the supply, it's just not practical and will sadly never happen. Instead I'd go and buy a Tesla Roadster or a Honda Clarity and send the same message, albeit in a smaller way. And tell all your friends to do the same; if there's enough molehills they'll add up to a mountain.

Yeah, you could pay about $4.50 for a can of beer.?
Been there twice in the last month or so. It's awesome. There was a good sized rainstorm recently, and the water that worked its way behind the adobe walls had to get out somewhere, so it made some pretty big cracks here and there.

Bringing up how the real world works is something the wind people find inconvenient.Fusion and wave power are better long term solutions, even if they are not currently practical.

One of the more interesting explanations for the Fermi paradox* that keeps popping up in recent SETI discussions is this one:A technical civilization will inevitably develop simulation technologies (virtual/augmented reality, "holodecks", networked gaming and conflict simulation environments etc.).And given the choice betweena) exploring space (which is extremely dangerous, expensive, and time-consuming)andb) enjoying/exploring millions of simulated, safe worlds, most civilizations might opt for the virtual universe(s).The more time I spend online, the better game visuals become, the more people I see joining social networks, online adventures and other forms of "shared hallucinations", the more likely this scenario seems to me.So the answer to "Where is everybody?" might be: "At home, simulating space travel (and everything else) on their PS 3000 or XBox 360000."I'm not saying any of these technologies are bad or undesirable. But if you try to imagine entertainment and simulation gadgets a million times better than what you have right now, it might explain why no civilization is bothering to explore the real universe.* ("Where is everybody?" - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermi_paradox )
